If you want to work online, you have to be prepared for many things you maybe haven’t thought of. Like for example the many rejection triggers.
People will unfollow you. Probably every single day.
Why?
Maybe because of a bug. Maybe because of an error. Your posts might bore them. Or your content just doesn’t fit them – anymore. It’s even possible they just deleted their social media account.
It’s hard to find out why exactly. It could even be hard to find out who it was, although there are many applications and tools giving you a better insights. But still, you probably won’t ever contact them to ask them why they did it.
That’s social media. When you’re working online, you can’t avoid social media. With just a simple click on a button you can follow, or unfollow someone. And it doesn’t matter if it’s a personal or professional account, it might feel like rejection. Don’t think you’re alone. Probably most men and women in the online world can’t handle negativity very well, even though it happens on a daily base. People are hidden in their own space and feel free to write or act the way they feel like.
Do you still want to work online?
Every bit of dignity and comprehension they display in the outside world, completely disappear when talking to a bunch of letters on a phone or computer screen.
Sometimes, in the online world, people seem to jump into rude mode a bit too fast. It’s sad for the one receiving. They’ll look for the fault on their end. Sometimes it even feels like a slap in the face. Where did it go wrong? Which post caused the follower to react like that?
I’m not trying to discourage anyone. I want to warn you. Are you sensitive to this kind of negative feelings? Prepare yourself. If you feel discouraged for above reasons, make sure you have your game plan ready.
And remember, whatever might happen, remember there are still plenty of good people on earth. If anything happens that disturbs you, feel free to reach out to me.
