The last couple of weeks in Lyon have been hectic – seriously chaotic. In one month, we’ve experienced things many couples wouldn’t experience in one year. We moved two times – Luis from his place to mine and then the emigration from my appartment to the Netherlands. We had our last working days at the office and even a lot more personal stuff, which I can’t write about in public.
An emigration is always stressful. It’s all about ending a whole life, and at the same time organizing your next one. We had to finish everything off in France, since we are planning on never going back there.
We had to empty our appartments, the life of two individuals had to fit in one tiny Peugeot 206. This was the biggest challenge! But we managed. With the car stuffed to the last couple of centimeters, our energy level somewhere in the reserves and an 800 km drive we left Lyon behind us. The last day we still had to do our ‘etat de lieu’, close my bank account at Credit Agricole – that bank sucks big time, almost a month later it’s still not closed – and deliver the entrance badge of my office. Say goodbye to my colleagues and to friends owning a garage north to Lyon.
I’m happy to say we managed all of it. We even made a stop at Buffalo Grill in Nancy Frouard. Funny fact; this is where my ‘France adventure’ started 2,5 year ago. I stayed in the hotel next to it and it was my first meal in France. So we thought it was an appropriate closure of the same adventure.
Sometimes when driving long distance I prefer to eat a quick sandwich while driving, other times I prefer to enjoy a full meal. Even though Buffalo Grill is simple, it was a nice break. After Nancy it didn’t take long before crossing the borders, Luxembourg, Belgium and finally the Netherlands. My mother woke up to greet us, even though she had to wake up very early that morning.
We still couldn’t believe that we finally arrived. After the hectic weeks it felt somewhat surreal to be at the destination with not many serious plans ahead of us for the next couple of weeks. Plenty of time, even though with time flying we will be in Mexico before we know it! But first, let’s enjoy the Netherlands 🙂
