I decided to start a new theme. Wandering in Lyon. For all the times I’m walking around, alone or with friends, searching for new spots and new places to enjoy this wonderful city.
Monday I wanted to go to a store to buy something – I seriously just realize myself that I totally forgot about what I went for up until now. Such a shame. So, I haven’t found what I really needed. But I did have a good walk.
Because I live on a hill – or mountain, as I call it – I find it normal to go by foot. It’s all down hill after all. I went on a stroll, took a different road than normal and ended up a little further than I meant to. I was aiming for the Tati, one of the few very cheap stores here in France. As always when you are in a cheap ass store, you buy things you weren’t looking for – and sometimes you forget why you went to the store after all, exactly what happened to me. Happy with my new items, I walked out. What next?
The weather was really good, approximately a 20 degrees. For the 26th of October it’s exceptional. I needed to enjoy this with a drink outside. But where? I ended up going to ‘La Boite à Café’.
La Boite à Café
This coffeeshop of Café Mokxa can be found in the artistic neighbourhood of Lyon, Croix Rousse. This causes a high hipster level. Simple, but cute. I like the bistro tables and chairs outside, which bring a nice atmosphere to a sunny afternoon. I nip on my Chai Latte and hear people speaking in other languages. Germans on my right, a group with different nationalities speaking English on my left. They sound as if they haven’t known each other for ages. Even the barista’s are speaking English to each other. Sometimes it’s good not to be the only foreigner between all the Frenchies.
I like their drinks menu, there are a lot of variations. Ice cold brew. Chai Latte. Flat white. A special winter elixir. Tea’s. Homemade ice tea. Freshly pressed orange juice. Different kinds of coffee beans. They’ve also thought of the sweet tooth amongst us: different kinds of cakes and muffins that go perfect with the coffee or tea.
There are interesting options like beetrootcake and cinnamon buns, or good old chocolate muffins, for example. The options are always different.
The coffeeshop is small, but cosy – their toilet is also the closet.
Situated at a small, round square, there is always something to see. And when you’re in a hurry? You can take your coffee on the go!
After my drink, I was craving a dinner – falafel! Not far from the coffeeshop, you can find Yaafa. The best falafel in town.
Yaafa
The name says it all: You Are A Falafel Addict. I think I am.
If you came for a boring, standard falafel sandwich, you definitely went to the wrong place. Yaafa offers a variety of recipes. You can get your falafel in a pita sandwich, or in a salad – also with a pita. There are six possibilities, with different toppings and sauces. Five are standard, one is seasonal. Please try the ones with aubergine, it is so good! Also the Red Neck is great – a sauce made with philadelphia and barbecue? I think I’m in food heaven.
You can order a sandwich or a menu, depending on how hungry you are. Y’a petite faim, Y’a faim or Y’a grosse faim.
They have homemade side dishes, soup of the day, potatoes or starter of the day; lentils, carrots or taboulé.
I ordered a l’Original in salad form, the falafel and hummus were the best I ever tasted! As a vegetarian I sure am going to eat here again. Or order – it’s possible to order their dishes at noon!
