Yes yes, I’m sorry. I’m not posting this sunday update on sunday, it’s already wednesday.. nonetheless, I want to post my belated update about last week!
Monday
I dropped back from nightshifts to working during the day, on monday from 10 till 18. After work I rushed by my house to prepare a shake for dinner and then I went into town. I was meeting my Mexican friend Mayte in a pub in Vieux Lyon. It was good, we enjoyed some small talk and a few drinks and we went back home in time.
Tuesday
Had to start working at 8, which I don’t really like to do. Because I was out the night before – and in the morning it was too early – I didn’t prepare my lunch, so I went with my colleague to the big supermarket close to work and we got a sandwich. Mine had goat cheese, salad and tomato confit. Yum! At night I prepared an egg, with mushrooms, corn and mozzarella, and I made lunch for the next day at the same time.
Wednesday
Again starting at 8, way too early! I brought whole wheat pasta with spinach, mushrooms, sour cream and mozzarella for lunch and loved it so much that at night I made another bowl to bring to work the day after. I posted the recipe here.
Thursday
Today I could start a little later, at 9 am. During the day I had my evaluation interview, which went pretty well! At lunch a couple of colleagues decided to go to the sandwich shop and I choose to join them, because it was sunny and a walk would be really nice! I could always leave the pasta for dinner. I took a three cheeses panini, yum. Did kind of miss some veggies though, a tomato wouldn’t have been bad. After work I did groceries, for myself and some supplies for the house. I found pure chocolate coming from my favourite region in Ecuador, Esmeraldas! I had to buy this ofcourse. It’s 98%, so I guess it will be bitter, but coming from Esmeraldas fixes everything.
So, at dinner the pasta and then off to a night full of reading and Gossip Girl. The next day I could finally sleep in again, because I changed back to a night shift.
Friday
I started work at 13:30 and finished at 9. I really enjoyed staying a bit longer in bed in the morning! After work I didn’t do much, because I was tired after 7 days of work.
Saturday
I started my weekend with a small chill session, doing laundry, dishes and a bit of cleaning out my room. Then I went to pick up Rafael, a friend from Argentina who is travelling through Europe in his summer holiday – yeah, it is actually summer in some places on the world. Would love to be there right now! We did groceries and drove into the Beaujolais. Rafael brought the best almond croissants ever and we had a picknick inside of my car – it was too cold to have a picknick outside, right?! So, after a few pieces of freshly baked bread, jam, hummus, bell pepper spread, camembert and the croissants, my car was filled with flour and crumbs. And our stomaches filled with a yummy lunch!
We were in Beaujeu, were there is a public wine tasting cave. In this one you can just order your drink, so they don’t really blame you if you tasted a lot of wine and didn’t buy a few boxes. He liked it, I liked it.
Then we went to the Fête des Conscrits, where you can read all about it in this article.
After this we came home and went to sleep, kind of tired after a long day in the Beaujolais!
Sunday
We had to wake up early to see part two of the fête des conscrits. Afterwards we had lunch in a restaurant, where I tried having a vegetarian meal. The only meat-free dish on the menu was a starter: filo pastry filled with goat cheese and cabbage. It was delicious!
As a main course, the chef prepared an omelette and a few vegetables for me and as dessert I took a moelleux au chocolate. Not all too healthy, but I made sure that I would still watch my balance during the rest of the day.
After lunch we said goodbye to Mathieu, because he wanted to go and watch football with friends. Rafael and I did a small tour through the Beaujolais, but because it was sunday there wasn’t a lot to do. We went back home and watched two movies, Gone Baby Gone and Imagining Argentina. The last one really touched Rafael, because of course it is part of the history of his country and it is impressive that so many people totally disappeared back then. Our dinner existed of a small piece of bread with jam, Rafael was still stuffed from lunch.
