Today I made this delicious mexican hot dog for lunch. I got inspired a while ago by Brenda, who posted the recipe on her blog. I couldn’t prepare the original version for myself, since I don’t eat meat, but when I found Seitan Wieners in the store, I couldn’t wait to try the recipe!
So my opinion? Delicious! I totally love food with a mexican touch, the Seitan Wiener tasted even better than a normal Wiener and the combination was perfect. Downside? You have to be careful with the ingredients, because they are calorie dense. When you add a little more, you could easily double the amount of calories the dish contains. I’ll repeat the recipe here, since the original is in Dutch. I still recommend you to check out hers though, her pictures are more mouthwatering than mine!
Ingredients
- 1 petit pain, preferably whole wheat
- 1 Wiener, mine consisted of seitan
- 50 grs avocado
- 25 ml crème fraîche 15%
- 1 tomato
- 10 grs nacho chips
Preparation
Preheat the oven and prepare the petit pain according to the instructions. Also heat the Wiener according to instructions.
Chop the tomato and sprinkle with lemon juice and pepper.
Mash the avocado and bring to taste with salt and pepper. When the petit pain is ready, take it out of the oven and put the crème fraîche and mashed avocado on the inside. Add the Wiener and sprinkle the chopped tomato and nacho’s on top.

Tip: make this mexican hot dog into a salad! Just leave out the bun and mix the ingredients in a bowl of salad. In this way it will contain less carbs and more greens.
