Living in the south of the Netherlands, making daytrips to Belgium wasn’t an extraordinary thing to do. It was the same as going to the next big city, just a 25 minute car ride. I’ve spend many days in the weekend in Antwerp. The cinema was bigger, the stores were different and there are much more epic bars than in my hometown.
Beer country
Belgium is famous for it’s big variety of special beers. Beers that taste way different than the average pilsner, some high in alcohol, some a bit lower. Not all of them taste good, but many do. Which makes Belgium the country with the best beers in the world – in the opinion of many. I don’t know about you, but I surely agree on that. Luis as well, as sharing the love for drinking Belgian beers is one of the things that made him fall for me ;-). And one of the things that impressed him, was the atmosphere in Belgium.
Something else that makes drinking in Belgium special, is the amount of authentic bars. You see, most Belgians care more for authentic than for hypermodern. Old but gold. For some reason the old brown bars, still decorated the same way as 30 years ago, still attract a lot of people. Not only old people, but also the young crowd who like to feel themselves in another era.
Every town or city has bars that have their own special story. We would like to share information about some interesting spots with you. Who knows, they might make for an unforgettable experience whenever you might be visiting.
The best way to share this, in our opinion was by video. In that way you can see and taste the atmosphere and get a little preview of the places that are definitely worth a visit. We filmed them in Spanish and added English subtitles, so everyone can follow the information.
