I promise you this week was a bit more interesting ;-). Working 7 evening shifts turn my life into a pretty boring one.
Monday
I emptied my suitcase, cleaned out my room, did groceries and prepared lunch. A wholewheat pasta with spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, low fat cream and herbs. I finished work at 22pm and afterwards I had another Skype business call.
Tuesday
I spent my morning searching for information for the business stuff. Then I worked.
Wednesday
The weather was lovely again, the sun was shining. I decided to have my breakfast shake on the front porch, letting the sunshine soak in. Great start of the day! I didn’t feel like cooking, so I lunched with oatmeal and before work, I went to the supermarket to buy a ready made meal. Normally I try to avoid those, but sometimes I shouldn’t worry too much about all the cooking :-). I had to work from 13:30 until 21 pm.
After work I met with colleagues in a pub. An older colleague (Ronald), a new colleague and his girlfriend. We had a good night! The others didn’t stay until late, because they had to wake up early. Ronald and I were celebrating the start of our weekend, so we went to go to another pub. We stayed a few hours, conversated a lot. Then we decided to call it the day, we picked up my car in the parking garage and went home. In the parking garage we noticed the beautiful ceiling, which is a picture of the inside of a church. Impressive.
Thursday
I met with Ronald again in Lyon. It was a lovely day. We started by going to the Food Truck Village, which was very disappointing. Two small trucks, both with stuff I didn’t care for. Fortunately the shopping mall is right next to it, so I got my lunch there. I was surprised to see one of the bakeries had a vegetarian sandwich on the menu! Bit of a shame that it was just a sandwich with a few pieces of baked bell pepper, feta cheese and a lot of oil. The menu said it would contain avocado, but apparently they ran out of avocados?
Seduced by all the stores, I couldn’t help myself but starting to hunt for shoes. Ronald turns out to be a real sneakers fanatic, so he told me lots of stuff about different brands and types. We kept on looking until closing time, then we rehydrated ourselves with a nice beer ;-).
Ronald had dinner plans, I didn’t. Because this Thursday was kind of my ‘Saturday night’, I didn’t want to spend it alone in my room at 8pm, so I went to the pub and had a good night, even though I went all alone!
Friday
I had a good night sleep and decided which pair of sneakers I wanted to have. Ronald was happy to assist me again, thank you! We went around lunch hour and again I didn’t have lunch at home, so the first stop was Subway. I know there must be all kind of things wrong with their bread and everything, but even though I started eating vegetarian, to me the sandwiches still taste the same, which I think is pretty impressive!
After a good vegetable sandwich, we bought the shoes. As happy as a child, I put them on right away. Then Ronald showed me around in his favorite percussion store. Time for drinks again! We bumped in to a popular bar, where I had a good old Perrier and Ronald enjoyed a Dutch Grolsch (beer). We walked around Lyon, had some drinks in another pub, then Ronald wanted to go to his favorite pub. Bummer! Apparently the pub has been sold to a French guy, who thinks it’s a great idea to serve French cidre on tap. In an Irish pub.. Disappointed by the change of owner, and disappointed by the tacky cider, we left the bar.
We wanted to eat out and to make sure that I could eat vegetarian, we went for a Mexican restaurant, ‘El Sombrero’. The enthusiasm we were welcomed with was a bit too much. It made me think of a restaurant in Disneyland. They gave us sombrero’s to wear and make pictures, which I did – of course. We both took fajitas, Ronald with beef, me with vegetables.
Sooo good! They served rice, guacamole, grated cheese and a delicious bean puree with it. Ronald like it so much, that he ordered a new round of the extra’s. Not a great idea. He found a magnet in the guacamole and lost his appetite. The waiter was very fast in taking the dishes away and offered us a shot of tequila. Nah-ah, I had to drive! Then we got a ‘children’s tequila’. Weird stuff.
Still very unhappy, we left the restaurant. Not sure if we will ever go here again.
Saturday
I had to work, it has been a long time since I had a normal morning shift! It was good thought. At 16:30 I was done and I hurried into town to meet a friend. He had to leave soon, but left me with another friend and I went from the one pub to another to watch Rugby matches. Waking up early made me feel tired very early and watching a sport I don’t have much connection with, I decided to go home early. Also, I was pretty hungry and wanted to make a meal that I could split in two and save a bit for lunch on Sunday.
Sunday
Easy day at work :-).
